Norrdans and Locals in a Unique Performance

Norrdans dancers share the stage with ten local residents. Together, they form a unique ensemble that explores the concepts of mass and power. The bombastic, monumental, and intimately emotional piece Crowds & Power premieres on March 14.

In Crowds & Power, Martin Forsberg creates a choreographic landscape stretched between the human crowd and the actions that reveal the scales of power. It is interhuman and articulated through both the grand and the small. In addition to the Norrdans ensemble, local residents from each tour location also participate. They receive instructions via in-ear headphones on how to move during the performance.

“There is something ambivalent about crowds. As if they teeter between celebration and destruction—that swaying motion is what we want to capture,” says Martin Forsberg, choreographer and artistic director of Norrdans.

Crowds & Power features scenography and costume design by David Gehrt and newly composed music by Anna Sóley Tryggvadóttir. The piece is framed by lighting design by Mads Lindegaard.

Martin Forsberg has previously choreographed the works Doppelgänger and Proxy together with Norrdans, which also explore communication and the staged authentic.
